Pregnancy & Postpartum Physical Therapy

Prepare for childbirth, reduce pain, and recover with confidence through pregnancy and postpartum physical therapy at Apto Physical Therapy. We provide individualized, one-on-one care to support your body through every stage—from pregnancy to return to activity.

A Whole-Body Approach to Pregnancy & Postpartum Care

At Apto, we take a whole-body, individualized approach to supporting you through pregnancy and postpartum recovery. Your body undergoes significant hormonal, biomechanical, and postural changes during this time, and these changes affect far more than just the pelvis.

Your evaluation goes beyond the pelvic floor to assess how your entire system is functioning, including your abdominal wall, breathing patterns, posture, and movement mechanics. We also look at how your hips, spine, and core work together to support you throughout pregnancy and into the postpartum period.

Common Symptoms We Treat

These changes can contribute to a wide range of symptoms, including:

  • Neck and back pain

  • Pelvic girdle pain

  • Hip pain

  • Diastasis recti (abdominal separation)

  • Urinary or bowel dysfunction

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Pelvic pain

Our goal is to identify the underlying contributors to your symptoms and address them in a way that supports both immediate relief and long-term recovery.

Preparing for Birth

Working with a pelvic health physical therapist during pregnancy can help prepare your body for delivery. Treatment focuses on improving pelvic mobility, coordination, and your ability to effectively manage pressure—factors that can support a more efficient delivery and reduce risk of injury.

Postpartum Recovery

The postpartum period is a critical time to restore strength, function, and confidence with movement. A comprehensive assessment of the pelvic floor and abdominal wall can help guide safe recovery—especially following experiences such as prolonged labor, perineal tearing, episiotomy, assisted delivery, or Cesarean section.

Individualized Care That Adapts to You

Every body and every birth experience is different. A one-size-fits-all approach is not appropriate for managing back pain, pelvic girdle pain, diastasis recti, prolapse, or incontinence.

Your plan of care is fully individualized to support your goals—whether that’s reducing pain, improving core and pelvic floor function, or safely returning to exercise and activity.

  • Pelvic floor and core retraining

  • Breathing and pressure management strategies
