Physical Therapy FAQs | Apto Physical Therapy & Wellness (Wheat Ridge & Denver, CO)

What Makes Apto Physical Therapy Different?

Traditional physical therapy can improve symptoms, but it often doesn’t address underlying contributors such as systemic inflammation, stress, or behavior patterns—factors that can perpetuate pain and limit long-term results.

At Apto Physical Therapy in Wheat Ridge, CO, we take a truly integrative, whole-person approach. We consider your movement, lifestyle, nutrition, and mindset to help you optimize healing, improve function, and return to the activities you love—without recurring setbacks.

What Conditions Do You Treat?

We treat a wide range of orthopedic and pelvic health conditions for patients across Wheat Ridge, Lakewood, Arvada, and the greater Denver area.

Orthopedic conditions include:

  • Neck pain

  • Low back pain

  • Hip, shoulder, and knee pain

Pelvic health conditions include:

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Urinary incontinence, urgency, or frequency

  • Bladder pain and pudendal neuralgia

  • Pelvic pain or genital pain

  • Constipation or fecal incontinence

  • Abdominal pain and tailbone pain

  • Diastasis recti and hernias

  • Pregnancy and postpartum-related pain (back, hip, pelvic girdle)

What Should I Expect at My First Visit?

Your initial evaluation is a comprehensive, one-on-one session with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

We will begin with a detailed history, including your symptoms, lifestyle, sleep, nutrition, and medical background. For pelvic health concerns, we may also discuss bladder, bowel, and sexual health.

Next, we assess posture, movement, and strength. If appropriate, we may perform additional testing to better understand your symptoms.

For pelvic floor conditions, an internal exam (vaginal or rectal) may be recommended. Your comfort and consent are always prioritized, and all aspects of care are explained beforehand.

We will review findings together and create a personalized treatment plan.
Pelvic health evaluations are 75–90 minutes and often include treatment during your first visit.

What Should I Wear to My Appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely (e.g., athletic wear). You may be asked to walk, squat, or perform functional movements.

If an internal pelvic floor assessment is performed, you will undress from the waist down and be provided with appropriate draping for comfort and privacy.

How Long Are Appointments?

  • Initial evaluations: 75–90 minutes

  • Follow-up sessions: 30, 45, or 60 minutes

Your provider will recommend the appropriate session length based on your needs and goals.

Do I Need a Referral for Physical Therapy?

No—Colorado is a direct access state, meaning you do not need a referral to start physical therapy.

We are happy to collaborate with your physician or healthcare team when appropriate.

Do You Accept Insurance?

Apto Physical Therapy is an out-of-network provider and operates on a fee-for-service basis.

We provide a superbill upon request, which you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement using your out-of-network benefits.

Many patients with high-deductible plans find that out-of-network care allows for more personalized treatment and faster results with fewer visits.

How Much Does Treatment Cost?

  • Initial Evaluation: $250

  • 60-minute session: $175

  • 45-minute session: $135

  • 30-minute dry needling session: $90

What Forms of Payment Do You Accept?

We accept:

  • Credit card

  • Cash or check

  • HSA/FSA

What Type of Appointment Should I Book?

  • New patients: Book an initial evaluation

  • 60-minute follow-up: Best for full-body treatment or multiple areas

  • 45-minute follow-up: Ideal for focused treatment on one area

  • 30-minute session: Dry needling only

Do You Treat Pelvic Floor Conditions in Men?

Yes. Everyone has a pelvic floor, and we treat both male and female pelvic floor dysfunction.

Am I a Candidate for Dry Needling?

Dry needling can be effective for treating myofascial trigger points and muscle pain.

However, it may not be appropriate if you have:

  • Active infection

  • Skin lesions

  • Lymphedema

  • Bleeding disorders

  • Certain vascular conditions

Dry needling is also avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy at Apto Physical Therapy.

When Should I Start Pelvic Floor PT During Pregnancy?

We typically recommend starting in the second trimester, even if you are not experiencing symptoms.

A birth prep session at 34–36 weeks helps prepare for labor and delivery. More frequent visits may be recommended if you are experiencing pain or pelvic floor symptoms.

Can I Come to PT While on My Period?

Yes. You can still attend your session during menstruation.
Internal pelvic work is always optional, and your comfort is our priority.

How Is Functional Nutrition Integrated Into Care?

If you’re interested in functional nutrition, simply indicate this on your intake forms.

Your provider can incorporate nutrition and lifestyle guidance into your treatment plan to help reduce symptoms, support healing, and optimize long-term health.
