about SCAR TISSUE MOBILIZATION

Eliminate restriction, improve mobility and restore sensation

Scar tissue can form in response to surgery, injury and trauma. During the healing process, the body will lay down collagen cells to restore the integrity of the tissue. However, these collagen fibers are not aligned in an organized fashion and may need to be remodeled in order to be as strong and mobile as possible.

Scar tissue can form myofascial adhesions in the surrounding tissues, which affects blood flow, muscle function and sensation. However, physical therapy modalities can be utilized to release these myofascial adhesions and reorganize collagen fibers, which can decrease pain, restore skin sensitivity, promote mobility of the surrounding muscle tissue and improve the appearance of the scar itself.

Scar tissue mobilization is appropriate for those who have sustained an injury (e.g. muscle tear) or have undergone abdominal surgery (including abdominoplasty, hernia repair and Cesarean delivery), pelvic surgery, orthopedic surgery, mastectomy and breast reconstruction/augmentation.
